Circular saws have a flat pivoting shoe that moves up and down for depth adjustment and to the right or left (although generally to the left from zero to 45 or 50 degrees) for angled cuts or edging. Circular saws are also built with a blade guard which covers the blade almost entirely to protect operators from the jaws of a spinning blade. Most circular saws also have additional safety features like blade and trigger locks -- but dont let these mechanisms fool you. Circular saws can be very dangerous and because they are relatively simple to use and maneuver it is easy to forget the potential dangers of a sharp and spinning power tool as you work. Circular saws are excellent for rip cuts cutting with the grain and also for cross cuts or cuts made against the grain. The saw is also surprisingly accurate - even without a guide. Because the blade is so large its bigger size generally keeps your cuts on track.
Like I said earlier it was old cheap and from Home Depot. Okay maybe we were pushing it a bit on the 6x6s but who doesnt push their tools to the limit of what they are supposed to be used for? Especially homeowners who typically dont have the large selection of tools that a contractor would have or dont always have the right tool for the job (the right tool for this job would have been a circular saw with a Prazi beamcutter attachment). After a bit of debate we decided to go with a corded circular saw or a Lithium Ion battery powered circular saw because we often go several weeks or months between projects. When we need to use the circular saw we want to use it now. Lithium Ion batteries have a long shelf life which means they will stay charged even if they sit on the shelf in your garage (in the cold) for several weeks. They are also extremely lightweight. So if we go cordless we will opt for the Lithium Ion battery powered circular saw. Makita makes a nice LiIon circular saw and you can get one with the purchase of their LXT700 18v LiIon combo kit. The LiIon circular saw included in the LXT700 kit has a 6-1/2 inch saw blade though not a 7-1/4 which is what we are looking for.

During my 27 years as a professional carpenter my 1stpriority has always been safety. I still have both of my hands and all of my fingers to prove just that. Unfortunately not all carpenters can say that and I have witnessed some real gnarly accidents. That being said all of the above questions play a role in the effectiveness efficiency and safety of the saw and its imperative that you purchase a saw that is right (not only) for you but for the job/s you intend to use it. With all of the different makes and models it can become a little overwhelming and laborious selecting the best circular saw. Over the years that Ive been involved in carpentry Ive purchased many tools and during that time there were no websites to assist me with making an informed purchase decision. I felt there was a demand for such information so I developed a website that is geared toward assisting carpenters or DIYers who are looking for one of the best circular saws on the market. Ive spent hours gathering a ton of reviews from actual buyers and users of the circular saws displayed on my site. I share the excellent good and not-so-good comments of the reviewers. This website will certainly assist and help you (to relax) with making a purchase decision that is well informed and educated.
