dewalt 5 inch circular saw
With circular saws there are three main designs to choose from so it is important to read the features of each type in order to invest in the perfect one for your project and sometimes depending on your needs you might need more than one type of circular saw. Different Types of Circular Saws: Worm Drive Saws: This type of circular saw gets its name (worm drive) from its drive system owing to its spiral shaped design. Just like most circular saws the motor of worm drive saws are aligned with the blade which weighs between 12lbs to 15lbs with a diameter between with a diameter of 6-1/2 inches to 8-1/2 inches. The motor of worm drive saws boast superior power and torque and just enough to saw through concrete or even carve up wet lumber making them an ideal choice for major renovation or framing jobs. Worm saws are also quite heavy so they are also great for projects that do not require you to hold the unit as you work such as sawhorse projects.
Most budget saws will use a somewhat heavier formed steel base plate/shoe and blade guards. Lighter saws use cast aluminum or magnesium alloys for their base plate and blade guards. The weight of motors can vary based on design. Lighter saws are generally preferred due to less user fatigue but there times with a little extra weight is useful. - Light and Laser guide: These have the potential to be useful but are often found on budget circular saws and may not be accurate. If the laser can be adjusted it may be made more accurate. What many people find more useful than a laser cutting guide is an on board light. - Depth and Cutting Angle Adjustment: Some saws can cut thicker materials than others. Also some can cut at greater angles than others. Among circular saws that use the most common sized blades (7 1/4") the depth of cut limit doesnt vary greatly. However even an additional 1/8" cutting depth can make a big difference in some applications.

These saws generally have a table that stabilizes them to make an accurate cut. Some table saws are able to be mounted on a table so you can move them around. The table saw is used most often by a contractor for a large job. There are various types of these saws which include the bench top table saw the contractors saw and the cabinet saw. Another circular saw is the panel saw. This saw cuts sheets of wood metal aluminum plastic or whatever else it may be into sized portions. You will generally find these saws in a shop that specializes in some type of major construction such as cabinetry construction. A more unique circular saw is the string trimmer or weed whacker. The weed whacker uses a different type of circular blade that has a string.
Carbide Blades - Will stay sharp longer than steel blades but more expensive. Tile Blades - Usually have diamond tip blades and are designed especially for cutting ceramic tile. Masonry Blades - These blades are made for cutting concrete brick cinder block and other masonry material. They are made of abrasive material. What to look for when buying a circular saw I would definitely look for a circular saw that accepts 7 1/4 blades. These are the most common blades; therefore making it easier to buy blades down the road. Also I would look for a saw with a long cord as you would be surprised how many cords are very short. You can always add an extension cord on but I would look for a cord that is at least 8 feet in length. Another primary item to look for is an adjustable base plate. This is good for making angle cuts and sometimes comes in very handy. Cordless Saws - Cordless saws are nice because they have no cords to plug in trip over or even cut through.
